Carbendazim / short form of: Methyl benzimidazol-2-ylcarbamate (BCM), CAS-no. 10605-21-7
Carbendazim
As part of our continued customer support programme we would like to inform about an important change in legislation:
With effect from 30th of April 2004 the European Commission published the 29th ATP in the Official Journal of the European Union (Directive 2004/73/EC), including the expected classification of  Carbendazim as follows:
Mutagenicity Category 2   R 46   (formerly Mut. Cat. 3)

Reproduction Toxicity Category 2 R 60, 61 (formerly not classified)
After an implementation period of 18 months, from 1st of November 2005 on, by application of the DPD 1999/45/EC, all preparations containing Carbendazim must be also labelled with:
  > 1000 ppm Carbendazim: T ; R 46 “May cause heritable genetic damage“

> 5000 ppm Carbendazim: T ; R 60 “May impair fertility“,

R 61 “May cause harm to the unborn child“
Levels below 1000 ppm of Carbendazim will not be affected.
Prior to this change of labelling for Carbendazim, due to Schülke & Mayrs „responsible care“ commitment we have already established a range of reliable and high quality preservatives, free of any Carbendazim (and Diuron).
These new Parmetol® blends have shown excellent results during in-lab and outdoor testing in numerous paints, plasters and a variety coatings as being suitable alternatives to replace Carbendazim. If you would like to know more about our new generation of Parmetols with Carbendazim-free film protection and their performance, please contact your local sales representative.
If you are interested in the detailed publication of the Official Journal please refer to http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/en/refdoc/L_152/L_2004152EN_1.pdf
