The Hygiene Prize, worth €15,000 was shared between two research groups, one consisting of Dr. Christine Goffinet, Ina Allespach and PD Dr. Oliver T. Along with the Hygiene Prize the Foundation awards the Hygieia Medal every two years. This medal is intended to honour those people who have devoted their lives’ work to hygiene and microbiology. This year it was awarded to Professor Manfred Rotter, MD, Director of the Clinical Institute for Hygiene and Medical Microbiology at the University of Vienna.

At the award ceremony 2007 a new monograph was presented on behalf of the Rudolf Schülke Foundation titled “On the threat of infectious diseases – the need for a reform of infection hygiene”, published by mhp-Verlag, which is a revised edition of the monograph first published in 1996.
