The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is the central federal institution responsible for disease control and prevention and is therefore the central federal reference institution for both applied and response-orientated research as well as for the Public Health Sector.

With the aim of working with private industry companies, who in particular focus on hand hygiene related products in the first instance, the WHO Clean Care is Safer Care programme launched Private Organisation for Patient Safety (POPS) in May 2012.

The Australian Commission on Quality and Safety in Health Care (ACSQHC) has engaged Hand Hygiene Australia (HHA) to implement the National Hand Hygiene Initiative (NHHI). HHA reports directly to the ACSQHC.

The Hand Hygiene NZ programme aims to support District Health Boards (DHBs) to reduce HAIs by encouraging good hand hygiene practices among healthcare workers, as a way to improve the quality and safety of patient care.
