The companies Johnson & Johnson MedTech Germany and Schülke & Mayr are opening a bike sharing station in a joint project with the city of Norderstedt. On Thursday, 9 June, mayor Elke Christina Roeder, Hans-Christian Nehlsen, Managing Director of Schülke & Mayr, and Andrew Morris, Managing Director of Johnson & Johnson MedTech Germany, cut the symbolic red ribbon and thus inaugurated the new nextbike station on the J&J MedTech site in Glashütte. This makes Norderstedt the tenth nextbike station, where registered users can rent a bike via app. The special feature of this station: thanks to the cooperation, employees of Johnson & Johnson MedTech and Schülke & Mayr can use the bikes for three hours a day free of charge. In this way, the two companies are making it easier for their employees to get to work CO2-free.
"At Johnson & Johnson, we believe that a healthy planet is the foundation for a healthy life. As the world's largest healthcare company, we have a responsibility not only to society, but also to the environment whose resources we use. Johnson & Johnson has set clear sustainability goals in 2020, such as carbon neutrality for our global operations by 2030," said Andrew Morris, managing director of J&J MedTech. "We want to live sustainability in big ways, as well as small - and the bike sharing station is a very good example of this." He is particularly pleased that this has been achieved in cooperation with the city of Norderstedt and the neighbouring company Schülke & Mayr. "This way we can set an example together and offer Norderstedt residents, our employees and visitors an environmentally friendly and contemporary mobility service."

"The nextbike station in front of the schülke site offers a high added value for our employees," emphasises Hans-Christian Nehlsen, Chief Financial Officer and Member of the Management Board of Schülke & Mayr. "We produce our hygiene and disinfection products around the clock, and especially during off-peak hours, the rental bike service perfectly complements the public transport system for our employees who travel to work in a sustainable manner." Protecting lives worldwide - a sense of responsibility for people, society and the environment is a particular concern for schülke as a company in the medical sector every day. The nextbike offer is therefore an enrichment. "Cycling gets us moving, clears our heads and thus offers a good balance to the job," Nehlsen said at the opening. He is enthusiastic about the teamwork between the city and the two neighbouring companies: "The successfully installed nextbike station is a wonderful example of how good cooperation can move so much more than the mere sum of its parts."

The city of Norderstedt as a strong partner

"The fact that another nextbike rental station for bicycles has been established here in Glashütte is good news for the local companies, but also for the whole of Norderstedt," says Elke Christina Roeder, Mayor of the City of Norderstedt. "As a city administration, we have been working continuously for many years to offer people alternatives to the car. For us, this also includes gradually making cycling more attractive and easier," says the mayor.

The fact that the city of Norderstedt has been able to further expand the cycling offer in close cooperation with the companies Johnson & Johnson MedTech and Schülke & Mayr is encouraging. "We hope that many other companies will follow the positive example of these two companies and in the future will also increasingly promote this environmentally friendly and very efficient form of transport to their employees," says the head of administration.
