Hygiene in dialysis centres & facilities

Our products and services protect people and materials in dialysis centres against infection and contamination. The disinfection of the dialysis machines makes a major contribution to preventing undesired infections.

Dialysis – a therapy for chronic kidney failure

The functions of a healthy kidney are the removal of excess body water, the regulation of electrolyte concentration (such as salt), and the production of hormones that help to control blood pressure, produce red blood cells and keep bones strong. When kidneys fail, all these functions need to be taken over. Apart from renal transplantation, dialysis is the only possibility for patients.
There are two alternative dialysis methods: Peritoneal dialysis is a non-extracorporeal treatment which purifies the patients’ blood with the help of the peritoneum in the abdomen as a membrane.
However, the most common treatment for chronic kidney failure is the hemodialysis, which uses an „artificial kidney" for blood purification. These artificial kidneys basically consist of a dialyser, the hemodialysis machine and related water treatment equipment.

Hygiene in dialysis centres & facilities

Particular importance attaches to hygiene in dialysis centres to protect the patients against infections. Hemodialysis machines and water treatment systems need to be disinfected regularly to ensure maximum infection prevention and a minimized health risks.

Our products dialox™ and dialox™ active are particularly developed for the disinfection and decalcification of hemodialysis machines and related water treatment equipment, and therefore offer the optimal protection for dialysis patients.

dialox active

Disinfection and decalcification in one step

Both of the products are not only highly effective disinfectants, they also descale the dialysis equipment during the disinfection process. With dialoxTM and dialoxTM active the formation of biofilms on surfaces on hydraulic circuits is prevented, so that the use of clear and safe water for the hemodialysis treatment is ensured.
Besides assuring the patients’ protection by simultaneously disinfecting and descaling the dialysis equipment, the products are both compatible with the materials generally used for dialysis machines and water treatment systems.

Infection prevention for dialysis staff and patients

An effective hand hygiene for staff and patients makes a major contribution in minimizing the risk of transmission and reducing contamination with pathogens. Our product lines for hand disinfection offer not only outstanding efficacy but also enhanced skin protection due to their special moisturising, skin conditioning and lipid replenishing additives.
To prevent the risks of infection and contamination, the skin of dialysis patients also has to be suitably disinfected when placing a vascular access or before cannulations. With octeniderm® colourless, schülke offers two high-quality products with a broad spectrum of action and outstanding skin tolerability, which are used successfully for this purpose.

Surface disinfection for overall protection

Surface disinfection means overall protection against pathogenic microorganisms which can survive for several months on floors and other clinic surfaces. Our surface hygiene products offer maximum infection prevention, minimize health risks and satisfy the highest requirements for cleaning and disinfection in clinical facilities.
