World Hand Hygiene Day

May 5th, 2023, with a symbolic plea: the fifth day of the fifth month in the year stands for the five fingers on our hand. The yearly World Hand Hygiene Day aims to maintain global promotion, visibility and sustainability of hand hygiene in health care.

Hands are not only our most important working tool, but they are also a frequent transmission route for pathogens.

About 80% of infectious diseases are transmitted by unclean hands touching contaminated surfaces. The pathogens most commonly known here include viral pathogens, such as cold and flu viruses, and bacterial pathogens, which can lead to gastrointestinal infections, among other things.

Also, droplet and aerosol infections, such as the SARS-CoV-2 virus, might be spread via the hands.

Regular and correctly performed hand disinfection is crucial for minimizing the risk of infections and promoting a sustainable culture of safety and quality in terms of ideal infection prevention.

PROTECT LIVES & STAY HEALTHY!

Everyone can accelerate action at the point of care and help break infection chains

As healthcare workers touch their patients many hundreds of times a day, they are responsible for safeguarding this connection when accompanying patients on the road to recovery. How? By disinfecting their hands for a few seconds, they give their patients the feeling that they are in good hands worldwide every day because hand hygiene and clean care are a signal of respect for people in need of care and protect the healthcare professionals who provide that necessary care, as well as everyone in everyday settings around the world every day.
