World AMR Awareness Week 2023 - schülke raises awareness about antimicrobial resistance

20.11.2023

The week of November 18 until the 24th marks World AMR Awareness Week. This week draws attention to the dangers of antimicrobial resistance. schülke products for infection prevention make an essential contribution to protect people against bacterial pathogens.

The theme of this year's "World AMR Awareness Week" is once again: "Preventing antimicrobial resistance together." Every year the global campaign is proclaimed by the World Health Organization (WHO). Even today, in the age of modern medicine, bacterial infectious diseases still pose a major health risk for people worldwide. Although researchers are constantly finding new ways to temporarily disable the pathogens, microorganisms are just too adept at becoming resistant to available antibiotics. This is one of the reasons why schülke follows the principle of infection prevention. Our products for disinfection and infection prevention protect lives worldwide.

After all, the best protection is not to catch an infection in the first place. schülke is committed to raising awareness of the dangers posed by antimicrobial resistance. One of the main reasons for the development of antimicrobial resistance is the increased use of antibiotics. A study [1] shows just how serious the problem is: Almost 5 million people worldwide die each year due to bacterial infections. At least 1.27 million of these deaths are directly linked to antimicrobial resistance. The G7 countries have therefore issued an urgent call for action.
