Due to the wearing of disposable medical gloves, the careful disinfection of hands in healthcare facilities has often been pushed into the background.
This can pose a risk to vulnerable people, e.g. patients with a weakened immune system. Every year, around 33,000 people across Europe (1) die from an infection with multi-resistant pathogens such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This makes correct hand disinfection all the more important.
MRSA plays the biggest role in nosocomial infections. Research into the development of new antibiotics against this pathogen is therefore being carried out at full speed. As transmission usually occurs via the hands, conscientious hand hygiene is essential to protect against infection. It is important to note that wearing disposable gloves in surgeries, clinics and care facilities is no substitute for thorough hand disinfection. The gloves merely offer additional protection against the transmission of germs.
October is World MRSA Month
In order to raise awareness of the risk of MRSA infections for older people and immunocompromised patients in hospitals and care facilities, October has been declared World MRSA Month every year. schülke would also like to contribute to protecting patients from MRSA with its products. In addition to products for hand hygiene and surface disinfection, this also includes products for (post-operative) wound care and skin antiseptics.
