Preoperative Whole-Body washing
Studies show that decontaminating whole-body washing, whether preventive in ICUs or before surgery, can significantly contribute to the reduction of infection rates. Studies have shown that nasal colonisation by S. aureus plays a special role in the subsequent infection process. A bundle of several measures can successfully lead to reduction or avoidance of postoperative wound infections.¹

Instructions for use
octenisan® wash lotion (for 5 days once a day):
- Completely wet hair and body.
- Apply the wash lotion undiluted to a damp and fresh washcloth.
- Apply the wash lotion evenly to the entire body. Lather for 1 minute.
- Wash off thoroughly. Dry with a fresh towel.
- After each application: Put on clean clothing.
For a limited period of time, the wash lotion can also be used in children - aged 3 months and older - for preoperative whole-body decontamination.
octenisan® md nasal gel (for 5 days max. 3x a day):
Unless prescribed otherwise, apply the medical device octenisan® md nasal gel up to three times daily as needed. The medical device octenisan® md nasal gel is intended solely for use in the nasal vestibules and below the nostrils.
Application in the nasal vestibules: If necessary, clean the nose beforehand using a thoroughly wetted cotton bud. Using a cotton bud, for example, introduce a sufficient amount of gel (pea-sized) into the front part of the nose (nasal vestibules) so that the surface is completely covered. Then close the nose by pressing the sides of the nose together and massage it between the thumb and forefinger. This ensures that the gel is evenly distributed. After allowing the gel to act for five minutes, the remaining gel and the pathogens entrapped within it are removed from the nasal vestibules using a cotton bud. Ensure that a film of moisture remains behind.
Application underneath the nostrils: Apply a sufficient amount of gel, for example using a cotton bud, to the irritated skin just below the nostrils. Ensure that a film of moisture remains behind. To prevent bacterial spread, avoid direct contact with the opening of the tube.

Special advice
In patients with a known hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients, octenisan® md nasal gel must not be used. For external use only. Do not use in combination with PVP-iodine, as this may lead to discolorations and may impair the antiseptic action of PVP-iodine.
Only flawless and undamaged container must be used.

The application of care products is possible after drying of the product.
octenisan® md nasal gel:
The medical device octenisan® md nasal gel must not be used in the case of known or suspected allergies to any of the ingredients (propylene glycol, hydroxyethylcellulose, octenidine dihydrochloride). If in doubt, ask your doctor. Do not use in combination with cleaning soaps, ointments, oils, enzymes or similar, as this may affect the preservatives. Do not use in combination with PVP-iodine, as this may lead to discolorations and may impair the antiseptic action of the PVP-iodine. Do not use the medical device octenisan® md nasal gel uninterruptedly for longer than 2 weeks without medical supervision. To prevent possible tissue damage, octenisan® md nasal gel should not be applied to cartilage or in the eyes or ears, and must not be introduced too deeply into the nose! Do not use for infusion or injection! Do not ingest! Use only intact and undamaged containers. octenisan® md nasal gel should be stored between 5 °C and 25 °C and protected from direct sunlight. Not suitable for children under 1 year of age.
